NIFA Collaborative Grants: Opportunities for North Carolina Cooperative Extension
Presented by Antonio A. McLaren, Ed.D. Civil Rights and Accountability Program Specialist, Cooperative Extension at North Carolina A&T State University
Dr. Antonio McLaren joined the 2021 Winter NCACES meeting to share on the collaboration between USDA-NIFA and Land Grant Universities. NIFA’s mission includes, “Invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges.” Land-grant institutions are key partners in fulfilling this mission.
NIFA has federal assistance available to their 295 partner institutions. This assistance includes $1.8 billion in extramural funding, capacity funds for Extension and Agricultural Experiment Stations, 30+ competitive federal financial assistance programs, and a flagship research program known as the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI).
Dr. McLaren shared NIFA’s Data Gateway and insights on navigating NIFA’s website to find grant opportunities. While collaboration among institutions is often note required of NIFA grants, it may make application packages stronger and better serve the target population.
