In response to concerns centered around whether or not the COVID-19 virus could be transmitted via food, the Safe Plates team recognized the need to provide accurate and timely information to alleviate fears about the food supply and to provide much-needed information on how to mitigate community spread of the virus. The team used a variety of delivery methods to reach Extension agents, food industry professionals, and the public with essential information. They were able to adapt during challenging times and did so with great speed, using science and best practice information as a guide. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. Congratulations, Safe Plates Team!!

3) The Outstanding Subject Matter Program by an individual went to Lee Menius, NC Choices Technical Coordinator, in recognition of his efforts to address pressing issues related to COVID-19 and the impact on the meat supply for farmers and customers. Lee spearheaded the effort to launch the website MeatSuite.com in late March. MeatSuite.com is a website where you can find local farms selling meat in bulk quantities. It is such a timely and useful resource. Clearly illustrated by the over 6,000 visits the website had in single day. That’s amazing, Lee!! Congratulations.
